Artland U.S.A.

For anyone who has sky I would recommend watching the programme Artland U.S.A. its on skyarts (and skyarts HD too) on Sundays at 7:30. Its a programme reveiwing art across america by traveling from miami to alaska and visiting gallerys, artists and some really weird and bizzare examples of art and architecture. its a good show and only on the second episode. its worth a watch. x

Lucy Skaer

I was looking at the Dogger Fisher website, trying to decide who I should focus my attention on for our written work for Jenny and saw this table. Its by Lucy Skaer and is a wooden table inlaid with mother of pearl. Its called ‘The Tyrant’, I just really liked it.

I love the way the mother of pearl arms are reaching toward who ever would be sitting at the desk, scary. :)

Laura who?

photo-389.jpg  been thinking about celebrity and what it can mean and how it has changed. I was interested in the fact that today ANYBODY can be a celebrity, wether they have talent or not or wether thay deserve the noteriety or not. The throwaway names that appear from no where and suddenly have their own programme or facial care range or clothing range at next (which you just know they didnt even see until it rolled off the production line) and are gone as quickly as they appear. I dont really know if i could use this idea or not but this is the main thing that comes to mind when thinking about what celebrity means today, that desperate need to be loved and popular. Maybe thats all a bit synical but i can’t help but be when i see the drivle that passes for entertainment produced to churn out these celebs. grrr. found the one to ones really helpful today and have started some visual responses.  hopefully will get a bit further in my ideas soon.

p.s. thank you Claire for playing that hot chip song today, i heard it in a club months ago and have been trying to find out what it was. yes my mind can rest. :)

happy holidays!

hello, hope you all had a merry christmas and got some nice goodies, and that you have all recovered from new year. Had a nice Christmas with lots of family and lots of chocolate! got a nice grey long coat and a stay in Stobo castle spa!! cant wait! Got back from Norway yesterday, had a great time, went skiing and went on the snowmobile and got absolutly tiddled on aquavit (the national spirit). had a bit of a hellish time in the airport tho, there was a blizzard and we were snowed in, no planes were taking off and Harry and I (along with four other flights worth of people) had to sleep in the airport. I slept on the floor in the cafe area, wahhhh it was cold and when i woke up there was floor gunk on my face :( . but a good holiday apart from that. see you all soon! :)

movie worries

helloo again. I’ll warn you that this blog might be a little incoherent, I’ve got that flu thats been floating aound and my brain feels like its been stuffed with wet cotton wool, nice. I”ve been watching trailers for new movies on the internet (yup i need a new hobby!) and am worried, Specifically about movies adapted from books. Its good in some ways that books are adapted and made accessable to everyone but at the same time the story always seems to get the ‘hollywood’ treatment. I saw a trailer for ‘I am legend’, I love the book and would really hate to see such an amazing story get the gloss of an action movie. (you should read it if you havent.) I like Will Smith and don’t think he’d put his name to a crap movie but at the same time I can’t imagine him, or rather the producers letting him do such a dark film. I dunno, I’ll see it anyway cuz i’m a sci-fi nut but I just hope its good, or I’ll be crackin some heads!!! I’m also really worried about ‘The Golden Compass’, adapted from ‘Northen Lights’ which I LOVE (go and read them IMMEDIATLY if you have not already, go on.). I’ll see it anyway but the fact that they changed the title because they didn’t think that people would know what the northen lights are just speaks volumes!! Also can’t wait for the new batman. I’ll shut up now and go back to impulse buying online (I just bought a jumper with Totoro on the front :) ) and scrutinising movie trailers. okey doke im off to drink my weight in lemsip! have a nice night. xx
