goings on.

hello, been feeling a bit stressed out lately about the journey project, in particular the film part. I’ve been a bit un inspired about the film and feeling like I’m just filming stuff or the sake of it, even now that I have some good ideas I find the actual filming a bit of a chore, which is weird because I really enjoy the editing process and seeing the film come together. Anyway, I really enjoyed the mono-printing today, its such a good way of making a peice of work quickly without being too perfect with it. Not being able to see what’s happening on the other side of the paper is quite liberating, im always too fussy over my drawings. Also went to the RSA at the weekend to see the survey exibit. I loved it, the microscope with all the eyes bubbling out was great and I also loved the kinetic sculpture of the ribcage, it was beautiful. And of course I loved the wax keys, I kept wondering if anyone would notice if I took one for a souvineer, but that didn’t work very well at the lourve so I thought I’d just leave them as they were. anyhoo, would very much like to go back and spend more time looking around. xxxx

Roman Signer

hello. yesterday was a bit disappointing because i couldnt get my tattoo, the guy who was supposed to do it was off with the cold (aka man flu), but its been rescheduled for tuesday afternoon! but had a nice day anyway, me and my mum went shopping (got the worlds most gorgeous boots!!) and for a cup of tea in the Scottish parliment building, if you havent been in it then i assure you its even uglier inside, I did like the handwritting thing on the wall though. Anyway we also went to the Roman Signer exibit at the Fruit market gallery, my mum couldnt stop laughing! she was particularly amused by the canoe cut into three peices, it was so funny the attendant kept giving us dirty looks. I did like the video with the hay and the plastic bag being blown around the big drum, the rest made me giggle. And he stole our idea!, the video with the rockets and the computer chair!! if he’d have got in a lift after the rocket went off I’d definatly be sueing him. oh, and i also quite liked the hanging wine bottle the way it was spinning was hypnotic and quite relaxing. xx

imovie editing experiments

long way down.

Hello, just watched the first episode of long way down, the follow up series of long way round with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. This series they are traveling down from the top of Scotland to The bottom of Africa all on their BMW motorbikes. scary. Anyway, if you havent watched the first series you should check it out its really good. Charley Boorman also did a show documenting his first time competing in the dakar rally, which is good too. Ewan McGregor+ moterbikes= laura very happy! :) Ive been watching too much T.V. lately, what with heros, americas next top model, dog the bounty hunter (all of which im totally addicted to) and now this! when will i have time to eat and sleep?
Also I finally booked my new year holidays to Norway, cant wait its gonna be cold but fun I can’t wait to go skiing, ive never been on fresh snow before!! also hoping to go down to London in February to see the terracota warriors, but theres lots to look forward to before then. xx

Ratatouille

Went to see the new Pixar film Ratatouille the other day.  I tend not to read the reviews of films in papers and things, but i happened to read one of this film claiming it was crap! They said that it was unfunny and trying too hard to appeal to both adults and children. I totally disagree, it was the funniest pixar movie yet. I loved it!! It was the cutest story with evident Studio Ghibli influences, and definitely up there with Toy Story and Cars, based on charming storylines. The animation was stunning, i know pixar is always good, but this was AMAZING!  The tiny details really sold it, the food and plates and things looked real. Its weird how pixar seems to have suddenly become unfashionable for adults to like, I don’t get why people have written it off as ‘for kids’. Anyway don’t listen to the stoopid reviews, go and see it and don’t be ashamed if you’re the the only person over 10 in the cinema. :)

P.S. the short animation before hand is brilliant, I think I embarassed my boyfriend by laughing so loudly in the pictures! xxx
